Here is a little Q&A on Keratin Straightening from our last newsletter…

Q: What is Keratin Straightening?
A: It is a revitalizing treatment made of protein that gives extra shine to the hair while smoothing frizz and straightening curl. Q: What results should I expect if I get the treatment?
A: The Keratin Straightening Treatment does not make the hair completely straight. It significantly reduces curl, eliminates frizz, and gives the hair extra shine. It drastically reduces blow drying and styling time. It repels humidity, so the hair should not frizz in humid weather. Your hair will still be full of body so it can be styled and curled with rollers, a round brush, a curling iron, or a flatiron.Q: How long does it last?
A: It gradually returns to normal over three months. After repeat applications, it builds up on the hair and can last as long as five months.Q: If I have haircolor or highlights, can I still have the Keratin Straightening Treatment?
A: Yes. The Keratin Straightening Treatment actually improves the condition of the hair and seals in the color.Q: When can I have my color done?
A: Your color can be done the same day as the service, as long as it is before the treatment. After the Keratin Straightening Treatment, you should wait two weeks to color your hair.

Q: Do I have to use any special products to maintain my Keratin Straightening Treatment?
A: Yes. You must use a shampoo that does not have the ingredient “sodium chloride” in it. The Aveda shampoos we offer that do not contain sodium chloride are Shampure and Color Conserve. If you use a shampoo with sodium chloride in it, the Keratin Straightening Treatment will revert back more quickly.

Q: How long does the service take?
A: It can take anywhere from 2-4 hours.

Q: How often can I have the Keratin Straightening Treatment done?
A: A normal maintenance routine would be to retouch the service every three months. It will not hurt your hair to have it done more frequently, as the product is not damaging. It also may last longer for certain clients, so the maintenance may be less frequent.

Q: Can it be done on any type of hair?
A: Yes. It will reduce drying time and add shine and protein to any hair type. If your hair is extremely curly or coarse it will soften the curl and make the hair much easier for you to style. In addition, it will repel humidity and keep the hair from frizzing.

Relay For Life

We are so happy to announce that we will be participating in the Nelson County Relay for Life in May! Jonathan will be doing Locks of Love cuts and Pink Hair Extensions from 8pm on May 15th to 5am on May 16th. Yes, ALL NIGHT! Come see us if you’re planning to be there!

The suggested donation for the pink estension is $10 and all proceeds will be donated back to Relay for Life. As for Locks of Love…well, donating 10+ inches of hair is enough!

We love our corner location becuase there are so many great restaurants around us and we take advantage of them during lunch breaks as much as possible! Our current favorite is Ni Hao Cafe- they offer traditional Chinese and some of the best Thai style food we have ever had! They even have $5 specialspresented in Chinese but translated to English. Recents favorites-

- Tom Kha Soup- coconut milk soup with mushrooms, galanga, lemon grass and cilantro
- Chinese Fried Rice- stir friend rice, carrots, peas, onions, soy sauce
- Pai Thai- stir friend rice noodles, bean sprouts, egg, scallions, topped with crushed peanuts
- Green & Red Curry- with bamboo shoots, onions, carrots, and basil leaves in light creamy coconut sauce
- Basil Chicken- stir friend chicken, basil leaes, cilantro in oyster sauce
- Sweet Donuts- YUM!

The next time you come in for a service that takes some time, let us know if you are hungry. We would be happy to pick up food for you from one of our neighbors!

Wedding Weekends

Thank you so much to all of the brides who have booked Nuckles Salon for your wedding this year! In order to keep dates open for our regular customers, we limit the number of Saturday’s per year that we dedicate to weddings and we have reached our limit for 2010. Congratulations to everyone getting married this year. We wish you a beautiful wedding day!
